Eco-School

Currie Community High School has a long-standing commitment to environmental education and Sustainable Development Education.  We recognise the importance of teaching about sustainability issues and also providing opportunities for the pupils to get involved in reducing the environmental impact of the school. CCHS has been a Green Flag Eco-School award-holder since 2004, and in 2009 won the prestigious Ashden Award for our work on renewable energy.

We have a dedicated Eco-Committee made up of pupils from most year groups and they coordinate the environmental work in the school, with the support of staff.  We also have pupil sub-groups, such as the Fair Trade Group that are responsible for particular areas of work.

And this diagram shows the range of things we are doing at Currie to try to become a more Sustainable School.

Between 2011-13 we focussed on Litter, Food & the Environment, and Sustaining Our World as our three main topics for Eco-Schools.From 2013 - 2015 we have chosen to focus on Health & Wellbeing and Energy, as well as continuing our work to tackle Litter.
