Time capsule buried in the Quad

The Quad group buried a time capsule in the Quadrangle this morning to mark the end of their John Muir Award. The time capsule has lots of information inside about what life is like now, such as a newspaper, today's school bulletin, current stamps and coins, as well as information about the people in the group, the John Muir Award and XL. Hopefully it will stay under ground for at least 20 years before being dug up again.

Some of the information going in to the capsule

Bird boxes!

The John Muir Award Group made two bird boxes for our feathered friends this afternoon, carefully sawing each piece out of a plank of wood and nailing them together. We'll put them up in Roley's Wood in our next session.

sanding down the sawn edges

Thanks to Mr Wilson and Mr Hermiston of CDT for all their help!

£500+ raised for Kiriani boys school, Chogoria

Staff, pupils and parents showed their generosity by helping to raise over £500 for Kiriani boys school, a new school recently set up in Chogoria and desperately in need of funds to buy basic school equipment and food for the pupils. The money was raised by selling Kenyan and homemade crafts during this years Christmas concert, holding an S6 coffee morning, selling ethical Christmas cards and raising money through selling Fair Trade products.
Eric Melvin, former Head Teacher of Currie Community High School is heading off to Chogoria next week to teach there for two months. He has kindly offered to take the cheque with him and present it to the school.

Energy Group meeting

Our Energy Group met today to talk about how to get the results of our school energy audit out to pupils and staff.  We also discussed our plan of work for the next year and how to raise awareness about the need to save energy, and water.

New recycling trial

After our school waste audit showed we throw away 50,000 plastic bottles and 22,000 cans as a school each year we decided to take action!  The new waste committee have started a trial scheme to recycle plastic bottles, cans and juice cartons from the main pupil areas.  We are letting everyone know how to use the bins in the pupil bulletin and at school assemblies.  Many thanks to Mike Ferrigan of PIPER for buying our lovely new recycling bins for us.
