A member of staff and 4 pupils from Currie Community High School will attend an Eco-Schools conference at the Parliament Building on 28th January 2011.
This focus of the event will be the forthcoming new Eco-Schools Scotland topic of Food and the Environment.

Sustainable School Group Meeting
A meeting of the Sustainable School Group took place to discuss progress with the Green Plan. Good progress is making made in all areas and a full update on progress will be published towards the end of the session.
Next term we will start a one month trial recycling plastic bottles, cans and juice cartons.

Raising Funds for Kiriani HS
Alison Nind and her band of helpers sold crafts and FairTrade chocolate at Currie High School's Christmas Show, Calamity Jane, to raise funds for Kiriani High School in Chogoria. Thanks to the generosity of CCHS parents, staff and pupils, several hundreds pounds was raised to provide basic food and equipment for Kiriani HS.

The following fact sheet on Chogoria and Kenya was used during the S1 sponsored silence to raise funds to pay for the education of girls attending Chogoria Girls High School. Without our support, these girls would not be able to attend school.

International Eco-School visit to Currie
Currie today played host to a group of 18 visitors from around the world who were attending an International Eco-schools conference in Edinburgh. They came to Currie to see the breadth of activities we do here as part of the Eco-School programme.

Paper recycling by 1L1
1L1 did a fantastic job of collecting paper for recycling today. In total they collected a massive 73 kilograms today!

Green Garden Opening
The Green Garden was opened on 1 October 2010 by Eric Melvin, a former head Teacher of the school. Mark Hermiston designed and built the garden.

Africa Trust meeting
Alison Nind, Eric Melvin and Percy Farren met with Christine Knight (HMIE) and Andrew Paterson from the Africa Trust.
Christine and Andrew were on a fact finding visit to see what school partnerships were in place with school in Africa. The Africa Trust is an arms length group set up to promote partnerships with schools in Africa.

Carbon saving is an important and enjoyable part of life for pupils at Currie Community High School which has a long-standing commitment to the environment. Pupils track energy use and make pledges to save energy at home. Simple energy efficiency steps taken over the last 10 years are helping the school save around 70 tonnes of CO2 a year. In 2008 an 11 kW wind turbine was installed to supply electricity along with a 30 kW solar thermal array to heat the swimming pool.
